Victor Hugo Hurtado: Bolivian referee dies after suffering heart attack at world’s highest stadium

Victor Hugo Hurtado fainted and collapsed in the 47th minute during the game at the El Alto Municipal Stadium, where he was taking charge of a match between Always Ready and Oriente Petrolero in the Bolivian Premier League.

The 31-year-old had a heart attack on the field and then a second, fatal attack as he arrived at the hospital, which was confirmed by Always Ready team doctor Eric Kosziner.

At a huge 3,900m (12,795ft) above sea level, the ground is the highest professional football stadium in the world.

Leeds United scout Craig Dean being monitored by Premier League and Championship clubs – reports

Dean, who has previously worked at Newcastle United and Oxford United, is the head of emerging talent at Leeds and has built up a strong reputation for spotting top young players.

It is understood he recommended Leeds’ push for Swansea City starlet Daniel James but the move for the Wales international fell through on deadline day in January. James is now expected to join Manchester United.

Dean was also instrumental in bringing Tyler Roberts from West Brom for £2.5million.

Unai Emery’s side face Chelsea in Baku on 29 May and will be desperate to strengthen his side having finished fifth in the Premier League.

However, with another season in Europe’s secondary competition a possibility, expectations on the calibre of players being signed will have to be considerably reduced.

Madrid are reportedly desperate to sign Manchester United star Pogba this summer, with manager Zinedine Zidane a known admirer of the Frenchman.

The midfielder has previously said it would be a ‘dream’ to play under Zidane – and reports claim he would even take a pay cut to make the move happen.

However, Madrid fans aren’t overly keen on the 26-year-old.

AS.com asked 160,000 fans who the club’s most important purchase would be this summer and only 11 per cent went for Pogba.

Football Association of Ireland called into Irish football betting crisis as ‘scary’ sums of money placed on match

The game was between Cobh Ramblers and Limerick in the League of Ireland First Division and one of the team’s managers even contacted the Football Association of Ireland over the suspicious betting.

Limerick were backed from 9/4 in to 4/9 to beat Cobh away from home, an inexplicable market move in a game that would usually attract little attention.

However, betting company Paddy Power were still offering odds of 4/9 about Limerick 22 minutes into the game when the game was goalless.

The home side were originally the favourites to win the game, but went 2-0 down before levelling the game. They went on to lose 3-2, conceding two penalties.

Cobh manager Stephen Henderson rang the FAI on Sunday asking the governing body to look into anything that may have been unusual in relation to the betting on the game.

In an interview with The Times, Henderson said:  “I will help in any way I can, as nobody wants anything untoward going on in a football game.

He also confirmed his side had no injury concerns that might explain the gamble on Limerick.

When the game was poised at 2-2, Limerick were still trading at around even-money on betting exchange Betfair. Over €73,000 has been wagered on the event on Betfair and over €69,000 of that on Limerick.

Paddy Power and Bet365 shut down all betting on the game shortly before Limerick’s first goal, an extreme measure which is more accustomed to a suspicious low-level match in Eastern Europe.

This is not the first time Limerick have been in the news regarding bizarre betting patterns.

In April, a major gamble on Shelbourne beating Limerick attracted attention, with the FAI announcing afterwards that it was investigating the matter. Shelbourne won the game 2-0.

Vincent Kompany would’ve been Manchester City’s best summer signing, says Stuart Pearce

The 33-year-old will leave City to become player-manager of Anderlecht this summer to end 11 years of service at the Etihad.

Kompany’s final season with the club saw him lift the Carabao Cup, Premier League and FA Cup as City secured a historic domestic treble.

The Belgium international played a crucial role in City’s title run-in, starting the final four games and scoring a 25-yard screamer to secure a vital 1-0 win over Leicester.

Pearce, who managed and played for the Citizens, told talkSPORT: “When I was watching Manchester City train pre-Pep, you could see influence Vincent had on the training pitch.

“One thing I said yesterday was the best signing of the summer could be Vincent Kompany – to keep him at the club, keep his influence and hang on to leaders within the group.

“I’d be very interested to hear how that conversation went between Vincent and the club. You’d bet it would have been very amicable.

“But it’s where he goes from here, is it retirement or is it to play football elsewhere or is there a management opportunity?

“Vincent’s been, arguably over last ten years, the best captain and best leader there’s been in the Premier League.”

Kompany has signed a deal to become player-manager of Belgian side Anderlecht, the club he started his career with.

But Pearce believes the defender will return to the Etihad in the future.

He said: “If you’re going to bow out with Manchester City there’s probably no better season to do it than here and now with what they’ve achieved this year.

Tottenham news: Mauricio Pochettino ‘in contact with Juventus for 20 days’ as Massimiliano Allegri is linked with Spurs

TMW have made the claims and have also said the Argentine will speak with chairman Daniel Levy to ask to leave for free, regardless of whether Spurs win the Champions League final on June 1.

Pochettino is being eyed by Juve as the successor to Massimiliano Allegri, who leaves the club at the end of the season after five years in charge.

He won the league championship in each of those five seasons, also completing four league and cup doubles during his time in Turin.

Juve also reached the Champions League final on two occasions under the former Milan boss, but finished runners-up both times.
