Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting: Paris Saint-Germain forward misses from on the goalline in Ligue 1 encounter against Strasbourg

The former Stoke man, who somehow got a move to the French giants last summer, managed to inadvertently divert the ball away from goal despite being on the goalline!

Yes, you read that correctly, Choupo-Moting literally missed from centimetres out.

It all started so well for him, however when he opened the scoring for PSG in their Ligue 1 encounter at home to Strasbourg.

The visitors levelled the game but no matter, PSG were on the attack on 27 minutes and the ball was heading towards goal before the unthinkable happened.

Player of the weekend: ‘Up there with Ronaldinho and Lionel Messi’ – Gerard Deulofeu heroics send Watford into first FA Cup final in 35 years

Left on the bench for a ineffective display against Fulham in midweek, the Spaniard set about proving a point to Javi Gracia and he could not have chosen a more important moment to do so. His introduction would drastically change the match.

Wolves were deserving of their lead, they had held on to it until the 79th minute, John Ruddy had been relatively untroubled, but there was little he could do about Deulofeu’s first.

Andy Carroll’s West Ham career over as ankle surgery rules injury-hit forward out for rest of season

Carroll, the forward, went under the knife to cure a long-standing ankle problem which flared up again last month.

The 30-year-old was a doubt to be back in time for the end of the campaign even without choosing the surgery route, but the Daily Mail report there is now no chance he will play again this season.

And this means Carroll will not add to his 142 West Ham appearances, with the east London club not planning on offering him a new contract when his existing deal expires this summer.

Carroll, who first joined West Ham on loan from Liverpool seven years ago, has endured an injury-hit spell with the Hammers.

Gareth Bale transfer latest: Man United, Tottenham and Bayern Munich named as clubs interested in Real Madrid star

The Welshman was once again booed by Los Blancos fans over the weekend after putting in an uninspiring performance against Eibar.

His future with the Bernebeu outfit has been subject to intense speculation following the return of Zinedine Zidane as manager, with the Frenchman often preferring to use Isco in his line-up throughout his first stint in charge.,

Bale has failed to win over the Real support in his six year stint with the club, despite playing an instrumental role in four Champions League triumphs and their LaLiga title.

Bale has been jeered in most games this season, while former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon launched a scathing attack on him last month, saying he has ‘not lived up to expectations’ since his £85million arrival from Tottenham.

A move away from Real this summer for the 29-year-old appears inevitable, and, according to Marca, Manchester United, Spurs and Bayern Munich are competing for his signature.

Watford 3-2 Wolves: Troy Deeney mocks ‘loser’ Raul Jimenez over FA Cup semi-final mask celebration

Jimenez, the forward, pulled on a wrestling-style mask to celebrate his 62nd-minute goal, which put Wolves 2-0 up with less than half-an-hour remaining.

Though joked about at the time, Jimenez’s decision to wear the mask was widely mocked after the end of the match, as Watford fought back to win 3-2 after extra time.

Jimenez, who last week completed a permanent move to Wolves, will forever be remembered for celebrating with the mask in a match the Molineux club went on to lose, and Deeney called him a ‘loser’ when interviewed after full-time.

After watching a replay of the celebration, Deeney said: “I’m glad he put that mask on – he could wear it out now as well, now he’s a loser. So, enjoy the mask – we got the victory.”

Manchester United news: Edwin van der Sar admits he’s open to potential return to Old Trafford

The former goalkeeper is currently CEO at the Dutch club but has been linked with a return to Old Trafford in a director of football role.

Van der Sar won four Premier League titles, the League Cup and the Champions League with the Red Devils during a six-year spell at the club.

Following his retirement he moved into the administration side of football.

The 48-year-old became Ajax’s marketing director in 2012 and made his way up to CEO by 2016.

Alongside Marc Overmars, the club’s technical director, they have built a strong young team who have made it to the quarter-finals of the Champions League after knocking out Real Madrid.

Despite this success, Van der Sar has not ruled out a move to his old club in the future.

“I know United is a much bigger challenge than Ajax,” he told the Sunday Times.

“United is not just a big and famous club, but also a worldwide brand – yet when you’re inside it’s still a family place.

“I remember when I came from Fulham. Oh it’s United… but after one day you felt at home. The washing ladies. Mike the chef. Kath (the receptionist). They’re still there.

“You need to cherish that and Ole (Gunnar Solskjaer) is doing a great job at it. But also Ed (Woodward).

Arsenal transfer news: Leicester star James Maddison is perfect Aaron Ramsey replacement, says Tony Cascarino

Ramsey, the midfielder, will leave the north London club after 11 years this summer to join Juventus on a free transfer.

Despite his impending departure, Unai Emery, the Arsenal manager, continues to utilise Ramsey as a key player this season, and he has been rewarded with the Wales international putting in some excellent performances.

The 28-year-old has chipped in with five goals and eight assists in all competitions this term, and he will be sorely missed when his time at the Emirates finally comes to an end.

It is up to Emery and his coaching team to replace Ramsey, and the Gunners are sure to utilise the transfer market to do just that.

Teemu Pukki named Championship player of the year as Norwich team-mate Max Aarons also wins at EFL awards

Finland international Pukki, who joined the Canaries on a free transfer last summer, claims the award in the final weeks of a season in which he has scored 26 goals.

He leads the Championship’s scoring charts, with his brace in Saturday’s 4-0 defeat of QPR sending Daniel Farke’s in-form side seven points clear at the top of the table and on course for the Premier League.

Pukki said: “It’s an honour to win this award, I’m really happy for the recognition.

“I have really enjoyed this season so far in what is a fantastic league, but we know there are still many big games to come. There are many great players here tonight, so it’s special to win this award.”

Motherwell 0-3 Rangers: Scott Arfield scores first ever career hat-trick to help Steven Gerrard’s men claim easy win

The midfielder profited from some poor defending from the home side, scoring twice before half-time to move into double figures for the season.

And the former Falkirk, Huddersfield and Burnley man added number 11 on 60 minutes to claim his first-ever match ball as Rangers – who had boss Steven Gerrard confined to a seat in the stand – continued their post-Old Firm revival with their second three-goal win since last Sunday’s derby defeat at Celtic Park.

While they now trail the champions-elect by 11 points, Stephen Robinson’s rejuvenated Well passed up the chance to record a sixth straight home win for the first time in 44 years after playing a central role in their own downfall with some shocking stuff at the back.

Meanwhile, there were more shameful scenes to add to Scotland’s season of controversy when referee Nick Walsh had to briefly stop the first-half action to ask stewards and police to surround a group of Well fans after a lighter was hurled at Rangers captain James Tavernier.

It was hardly an action-packed opening but Motherwell certainly edged the early exchanges.

Jake Hastie headed wide from Richard Tait’s cross while Tom Aldred came closer only to see his attempt drift beyond the far post.

Without suspended top scorer Alfredo Morelos, Rangers looked short on a focal point.

But out of nowhere they grabbed the opener as Motherwell self-destructed on 22 minutes.

Daniel Candeias’ ball into Morelos’ replacement Jermain Defoe should never have made it through to the Englishman. But having been allowed to dribble into his feet, matters were compounded when Aldred got his feet in a muddle as he tried to cut out Defoe’s through-ball to Arfield and only succeeded in nudging it into the Rangers midfielder’s path.

Arfield could not believe his luck as he fired past Mark Gillespie.

The calamitous defending continued on 39 minutes as Well gifted the visitors a second goal. Charles Dunne should have fired the ball down the line but instead gave it to David Turnbull even though he was being closely marked by Candeias.

The winger was in like a flash to steal the ball and shift it to Ryan Jack, who teed up Arfield to net with the coolest of finishes.
