Nine Vikings ranked in newest Super Region #3 rankings

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – The Augustana wrestling team is ranked sixth in the NCAA Super Region #3 rankings in a release from the conference Wednesday. The region consists of 15 institutions including nine from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

Maryville earned the top spot in the poll with 49 points, followed by Ouachita Baptist with 45 points. McKendree placed third with 31 points, while NSIC rival St. Cloud State took fourth with 30 points. Lindenwood and Augustana rounded out the top-six spots with 21 and 19 points, respectively.

Three Viking wrestlers remain ranked in the top-five of their respective weight classes. TJ North (1st, 125 pounds), Jeremiah Peterson (2nd, 141 pounds), and Jayd Docken (4th, 197 pounds).

North held on the top spot at 125 pounds for the past two releases accumulating an 11-3 season record. Currently ranked first in the NCAA Division II rankings, North defeated the No. 5 ranked wrestler, Marcos Rios-Tamayo of Lindenwood at the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals on Friday, Jan. 9.

Peterson (141 pounds) moved up six spots, debuting at the No. 2 spot for the first time this season. Peterson finished 3-0 at the national duals with a 15-3 major decision over No. 2 Kyle Webb of Lindenwood. Peterson improved his record to 6-1 on the season.

At 197 pounds, Docken dropped one spot to No. 4 in the latest Super Region #3 rankings. Docken finished 2-1 at the national duals in Fort Wayne, Ind. this past Saturday with his only loss to Kenny Breaux of Lindenwood, ranked second in NCAA Division II.

Augustana now opens NSIC competition traveling to Aberdeen, S.D. for a 7 p.m. dual against Northern State on Wednesday, Jan. 14.
