RENO, Nev. — Minnesota State wrestling competed at the Reno Tournament of Champions in Reno, Nev. Sunday. Cody Quinn (Sr., 165 lbs. 3-2) finished the day with a positive record of 3-2.
Fourth-rated Quinn saw his first action of the season with a fall over Brock Crocker (Southern Oregon) at the 1:51 mark. Quinn kept his winning ways going with a 9-1 major decision win over Mark Mabry (Adams State). His first loss of the season came by a major decision win by Ryan Blees (Oklahoma State). When Quinn moved to the consolation bracket, Quinn recorded his second fall of the day with a pin at the 1:35 mark against Justin Samora (Adams State). Fourth-rated Payton Moore from the NJCCA (Southwestern Oregon CC), ended Quinn’s day with a 9-4 decision loss.
Da’Wayne Robertson (Jr., 125 lbs. 2-2) finished 2-2 on the day. His toughest battle of the day was against #3 in Division II Gerald Huff (Adams State). Both wrestlers made it to the quarterfinals by medical forfeits before Huff won by a 5-4 decision win.
Other than Robertson, two other wrestlers finished at the .500 mark today including, Malcolm Allen (Jr., 285 lbs. 2-2) and Scott VanDeLoo (Jr., 184 lbs. 2-2).
Minnesota State will be back in action after the new year when it hosts Minot State on January 9, in Taylor Center.
